ABOUT

Anya Molyviatis creates handwoven works that expand the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and textile art through an exploration of color, depth, pattern, and spatial experience. Originally trained in sustainable architecture before pursuing fibers, Molyviatis approaches weaving as both a material and architectural practice, creating immersive compositions that engage with light, structure, and the surrounding environment. Woven by hand on a custom 40-harness loom using hand-dyed threads, her works draw from the visual language of Minimalism, particularly its emphasis on color, repetition, and geometric form, while also honoring the longstanding history and cultural significance of textile traditions. By transforming fiber into richly dimensional, acoustically responsive objects, Molyviatis challenges traditional distinctions between craft and fine art, positioning weaving as a vital medium within contemporary abstraction.
